A special pleasure for my aunt

It was sweltering July in lock-down, when my aunt who was in her last days finally received this box of Lilac chocolates. She had always loved chocolate. I have been a patron since I discovered Lilac in its Bleeker Street location, where the owner explained about the original southern recipe. It has remained my favorite brand.

I heard my aunt and uncle at an asisted living facility were quarantined in different wings. That she was alone from her lifelong love, though her son visited. Born and raised in Philly, where her art work of woven materials is in Moore College's permanent collection, she had outlived many Philly friends and moved to Ohio where son lived. I called Lilac and had the chocolate delivered to her in some ice packaging. I had paid for special delivery and heard nothing. When I called, there was some chaos in the facility. The package was not where she was. Finally, I verified it was delivered and she lit up at the collection. Did she eat one? I am unsure, but nurses said it was so appreciated as did my cousin.
