The Stuff Dreams Are Made Of
When I was a kid, my best friend and I took our $.25 allowance and walked a half hour to the Farm Women’s Market in Maryland. We would excitedly elbow our way through the crowd every Saturday searching throughout the booths of jams & jellies, crocheted Afghans and potholders, pies and pickles until we found the one booth that was our destination, the FUDGE Lady! She made the most scrumptious fudge we’d ever had. Even our moms fudge didn’t compare. I was about 8 years old then and stumbled through life for twenty some years tasting fudge that claimed to be “the best”, only to take one bite and be sorely disappointed in the product. Then I moved from San Francisco to NYC, where I lived on Christopher Street. A good friend of mine took me down the block to the little candy store from me, Lilac Chocolates. When my turn on line came, I asked the sales person what their favorite item was, they directed me to the fudge. I bought two double pieces and eagerly took a bite! My mouth exploded in excitement! My tastebuds recognized that amazing flavors and my tongue recognized the toothsome deliciousness of years gone by! Just the right ratio of fudge to sugar and a density that doesn’t melt away too quickly, but remains on the palette. I found the panacea of FUdGE right in my own backyard and have been celebrating for the past 30 years by sharing it with friends and family! I highly recommend the Likac’s FUDGE. It truly IS the Holy Grail!
